Every year, many highly skilled professionals complete their service in the Indian Armed Forces and step into the civilian job market. Despite their experience and capabilities, a significant number struggle to secure roles that match their potential.
The issue is not a lack of skills. It is a gap in how those skills are communicated.
Military experience is strong and valuable, but it is often not presented in a way that aligns with corporate hiring expectations. The language, structure, and evaluation criteria in the civilian job market are very different. As a result, even experienced veterans may find it difficult to position themselves effectively.
Recognizing this challenge, GetSet Resumes has partnered with the Indian Air Force to support veterans in building successful civilian careers.
The Challenge and Opportunity
Transitioning from the military to the corporate world involves more than just a job change. It requires adapting to a completely different system of communication and evaluation.
One of the key challenges is resume writing. Military roles include responsibilities that are significant but not easily understood by corporate recruiters. Designations such as Squadron Leader or Group Captain reflect leadership and operational responsibility, but they do not directly translate into corporate job roles.
Another challenge is the hiring process itself. Corporate recruitment relies heavily on structured resumes, keyword optimization, and digital screening systems. Veterans are often unfamiliar with these expectations, which can limit their visibility during the hiring process.
At the same time, veterans bring immense value.
They have strong leadership experience, the ability to make decisions under pressure, and a disciplined approach to execution. Senior officers are well-suited for leadership and strategic roles, while Airmen bring practical expertise that fits technical and administrative functions.
The opportunity lies in presenting this experience in a format that aligns with corporate standards.
About the Partnership
In August 2025, GetSet Resumes partnered with the Indian Air Force Placement Cell to address this transition gap.
The Placement Cell plays an important role in supporting veterans as they explore opportunities after service. However, the need for structured career guidance, especially in resume building and job positioning, has been increasing.
This partnership combines institutional support with professional expertise to create a more structured transition pathway. The goal is to ensure that veterans are not only prepared for the job market but are also able to present their experience effectively.
GetSet Resumes is providing focused career support designed specifically for defence professionals.
The approach is centered on converting military experience into clear, relevant, and impactful corporate narratives.
The support includes:
- Resume development that aligns with corporate expectations and highlights measurable impact.
- LinkedIn profile optimization to improve professional visibility.
- Interview guidance to help veterans communicate their experience with clarity and confidence.
- Job search support to help identify and apply for suitable roles across industries.
All resumes follow a defined framework tailored for defence professionals. Each resume is structured to:
- Exclude any confidential or sensitive information.
- Use standard corporate terminology for better understanding.
- Maintain a concise two-page format.
- Meet ATS requirements for improved screening outcomes.
- Follow a clean and professional layout without unnecessary design elements.
This ensures consistency, clarity, and relevance across all profiles.
How the Program Works
The program follows a structured and guided process.
It starts with an onboarding step where veterans share their experience, career preferences, and target roles. This helps define a clear direction for their transition.
The next step focuses on resume creation. The team works on structuring the content to reflect leadership, operational expertise, and achievements in a way that aligns with corporate roles.
Once the resume is finalised, attention shifts to strengthening the candidate’s professional presence. This includes optimizing their LinkedIn profile and preparing them for interactions with recruiters.
The final stage involves job search support. Veterans are guided on how to approach applications, understand role requirements, and navigate the hiring process effectively.
Each stage is designed to move the candidate closer to being job-ready in a practical and structured way.
Impact and Results
Since the partnership began in August 2025, more than 50 Air Force veterans have been supported through this initiative.
These individuals come from diverse roles, including senior leadership positions and technical backgrounds. The program has helped them improve how they present their experience and approach job opportunities.
The feedback received so far reflects both satisfaction and readiness to move forward:
This response indicates that veterans are not only receiving the right support but are also gaining confidence in navigating the corporate job market.
The long-term vision is to scale this initiative and extend similar support to a larger number of defence professionals.
Veterans bring experience that is built on responsibility, discipline, and leadership. These qualities are highly relevant in the corporate world.
What they often need is the right structure and guidance to present their experience effectively.
The partnership between GetSet Resumes and the Indian Air Force Placement Cell is a focused effort to make that transition smoother and more effective.
It reflects a larger purpose – to ensure that those who have served the nation are equally supported in building their next phase of growth.
For veterans, organizations, and stakeholders, this is an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful and long-term impact.
